Cafe & Bar Our History

The wise man loves the water,
and the virtuous man loves the mountain.

A wise person's smooth handling of affairs
is likened to water flowing without stopping in one place,
while a virtuous person's peace of mind, unmoved by desire,
is likened to an immovable mountain.

At "Rakusui Rakusan", Ms. Yasue Ueda, who is said to be the first female bartender in Japan, creates original cocktails just for you. Let us introduce a little bit about Ms. Ueda here.

Ms. Ueda was once the master and manager of the legendary "Himiko" bar in Ginza. It is no exaggeration to say that she is a pioneer of female bartenders, having been in the industry for over 40 years. In fact, Ms. Ueda and the 22nd owner of "Chigira Jinsentei" have known each other since her training days, and the 22nd owner would often stop by Himiko when he was in Tokyo on business. Around 1990, the cocktail "Four Seasons of Ikaho", created at the request of the 22nd owner, become a masterpiece passed down through the generations among her fans. When her junior staff reached a certain point in their careers, she moved to Ikaho, responding to her desire for a relaxing time surrounded by nature, which she had confided to the 22nd owner. This was in 2004.

"Himiko" is now under different management and has been reborn as a wine bar. Nowadays, Ms. Ueda's delicate and profound cocktail masterpieces can only be enjoyed here. Be sure to stop by "Rakusui Rakusan", where Ms. Ueda and her husband's amicable photos from yesteryear adorn the counter wall, standing guard over time.
